Web Hosting:

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. (Source: Wikipedia)

To launch a new website you will need a website name (the domain name) and website hosting, which is a place for your website to run. Just like your own computer at home, a web server is a computer that has been configured specifically to run websites.

Website hosts, “host” a number of web servers in a data center, and they handle all of the back end management of that website hosting environment. For instance, the web host manages the storage, memory, processor speed, and other aspects of managing web server computers.

There are several considerations in choosing the right web host to suit your needs. A few important things to consider are how many website visitors you expect your site will receive, as well as what you will be running on the website. Ecommerce websites that have to serve thousands of customers will require more robust web hosting than  a simple blog.

You will also want to consider what level of uptime the web host guarantees, and what type of customer support they will provide.  While you can host your website on a very inexpensive web host to start out with (even a few dollars a month), over time you might outgrow the web host and need a better hosting plan or a different web host who can handle your website’s growth.
